ABS sensors can get dirty, making them seem faulty. If the problem persists, it's usually not dirt but an actual failure. A messed up ABS computer can give faulty sensor reports, but that's another matter.

The price he quoted you sounds about right, they're expensive little buggers.

I didn't know the light could have two colours btw. AFAIK, the light comes on after you turn the engine on and it should go out again. If it doesn't, there's a fault with the electronics (sensors, etc).

When you speed up beyond 5 mph or so, the system checks its mechanical functionality - if there something wrong (bad pump) the light comes on again and stays on. Hope that made sense.

But did it fix the fault?

(I changed a sensor on the gf's Golf but it didn't help)

If your ABS are faulty, you could always just learn to brake doing manual ABS 8)
Pump the brakes a few times... this will add to your driving skills :D hehehehe
(been watching too many racing anime

ABS light

Post by Akwell »

I had the same fault on mine,
light came up, drove down the road at about 20mph, turned the ignition
off then started it back up whilst roling, light went out.
I work for audi, (same computers luckily!)
Went to work and it came up with a speed sensor on the front left wheel. sensor is about £20, not long to fit.
Try this if it comes back, 'sporadic fault'!

One of our techs said that it was a quick job, bout 45 min tops,
he is audi and vw trained so i trust him.
I'm only a service advisor so have no clue, sorry!

Haven't had it done yet as ain't had time and light ain't on!
just erased the fault from the fault memory.
will let you know as soon as i speak to him.
