Mk 1 Derby headlights

Post by LLOYD »

i am about to buy a derby gls of 81 vintage and was wondering if it was easy enough to swap from square lights to round and which was actually cooler to have. also are there any good old skool accesory sites i can visit.

this is my first old skool dub as you can probably tell

changing from square to round... controversial !

as far as i know, its a straight swap as long as you have the round headlights and their brackets, the grill and all the clips to go with... my point being, finding the bits is the hardest part!

I wonder if theres any polo owners wanting to swap to square lights ??

...Plus the round headlamps and flat grille look awful with plastic bumpers.

by the sounds of it the square lamps are the better ones then or am i way off, i would love a set of chrome bumpers and a chrome roof/boot rack and some cool 13" alloys to bring in the old school flavour and some nice clean engine bits but will have to wait and see

by the way its an 1981 1300 gls im thinking of buying are these ok?

yeah great cars, just check for the dreaded tin worm.I have a Polo and wouldn't part with it much to the annoyance of my parents  .
Keep the square lights and grill and just put some good bulbs in there

Definately the best model Derby to base a project on - good GLS's are rare, as the rust seems to attack the top models as they had metallic paint which seemed to allow the dreaded rust to form. Seems to be a fair few lowly "S" models left around as they were painted in solid colours and had fewer holes drilled for chrome trim, etc.
Is it the green GLS on eBay you are hoping to win? if so, it looks like a very good car, totally unmolested. An ideal project base IMHO.
