petrol guage

Post by Tahrey1043 »

Is it possible to adjust the petrol guage on a mk-iii, or is it one of those sealed for life jobbies? It reads far too high in mine. After I've filled it, the car uses about 10 litres while the needle barely moves downwards into the "full" range. After that it drops normally but by the time it kisses the red area, you've spluttered to a halt. Needs a good tweak to bring the top 5 litres or so down into the moving area and make the 'reserve indication' do what it says on the tin.

And can a warning light be fitted? There's a spare LED on the non-diesel dash after all.

You could probably mess around with bending the arm that the float for the petrol gauge sender's attached to. AFAIK it's just a simple potentiometer arrangement, so tweaking there should sort it out. Or maybe mess around with sticking a resistor in series with the signal wire somewhere if you don't fancy opening up your fuel tank.
