Coolant warning light

Post by Robiniho77 »

Had this come on this morning after not driving the car for over 12 hours.

Checked level and was fine, temp gauge went up to normal and stayed there..

Anything else I should be worried about. If not I'll take it back to the dealer and make them check it over and things.

Anyone any ideas next?

Thanks

Liam.

Quite a common problem. Only a new bottle will solve it.

Coolant warning light

Didn't come on this time on startup..

Is that because of the sensor in the bottle or?!

Thanks

Put a bit more water in it and see what happens. Mine started doing that after its last service when it was cold and adding some more water sorted it.

Thanks for the responses!

Ended up popping into the VW dealer I bought it from and they are putting in a new tank and sensors under warranty so might aswell! Incase adding water doesn't solve it!

Glad to know its not a massive issue though!

Thanks

Liam.

sorry to bring up a old thread. My polo has this problem coolant warning light on every start up of car. Am I right and understanding that a New coolant bottle will solve this? does the coolant bottle have the sensor already in it or will I need to buy coolant bottle and new sensor? thanks

I've got the same problem on mine. Decides to flick on whenever it likes.
Whilst the car was in Shark Performance I spoke to a guy there who said theres a different sensor you can buy and it'll sort it out with no need in buying a new bottle.
Not completely sure on what switch, however he said it's green and the replacement will be black......... sorry for being useless with naming it though.

unsure if it will pass the mot with it on is all. if you ever find out the name let me know. I have a replacement bottle coming. but when mot comes. I think I will just need to stick a split pin in it as that sorts it haha
