The Pressed Plate Debacle!

Post by aaronon »

Hey!

So I see many UKPOLOS guys have pressed plates and they look pretty sexy!

I went to eBay and got a set that says "road legal aluminium" etc. on forums I googled everyone says they're illegal as even with the right front they're not reflective enough or something :S

Has anyone had any trouble with the fuzz?

They're here. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewit ... 1097549316

Next for me is GTi springs to make my car as high as the GTi so long as they're easy and won't cost a bomb on insurance. :)

Thanks for any experience with pressed plates!

Those particular plates are legal but...

They'll be here on thursday and i'll get them straight on :):)

I have pressed steel and I've had them checked by a fellow dubber who is a traffic fuzz,
They are 100% legal as they are reflective, have a bs number and postcode.
I got mine from http://europl8.net
Bought at ultimate dubs 2011, and were fitted to my mk6 golf and then my polo.
I also have a set on my wife's grande punto.

Of course strictly speaking they are illegal regardless of any markings if you haven't provided both proof of identity and proof of entitlement (ie: the V5) to whoever made them...

Strictly speaking, pressed plates aren't supposed to be able to be read by ANPR as well. If it's got the correct markings on it then it's supposed to be legal but if I were you, I'd still take a few minutes to read the rules so if you do get pulled then at least you know what you're talking about with regards to whatever BS AU 145d is and this

the only difference between pressed and plastic is the material, nothing more nothing less!!
they both can be read by anpr and speed cameras, just aslong as it has what ive stated above on the plate there is nothing wrong with them!!!
Two coppers were looking at mine up close and disscusing it they said nothing because its all legit

The only thing they would test is that it hasnt got that film over it that people do so when you look at your plate you can see it but when you look at the plate through a camera it blurs out..... but we will gloss over that

Never had any trouble with the five-o in regards to them.

I got those ones!

Thanks for the link to legislation! Had a read of a few of them and can't find reference to a 'materials' section though.

I've asked the seller to include documentation which shows the plates are legal and he has agreed so i'll keep it in my glove box!!! :)
