Will i need to scuff off the original paint or anything?

Hi I've just bought myself some standard VW 14" alloys to upgrade from my 13" steelies.
They're far from special but they only cost me £60 for the lot and they came with some tyres (with decent tread!).
As you can see theyre a bit scuffed etc.. I don't want to spend a fortune on getting the ...

I'm looking to buy a cheap set of genuine VW alloys, up to 15" (my insurance won't let me have anything non-manufacturer as I'm a first time driver).

I have been fiddling about in my new car (Who doesn't?), my Polo E 1.0 6N2... It's my first car, hence the tiny engine..
Anyway, I popped out my coin tray near my gear stick and have found a purple socket, does anybody know what this is? Obviously I have a low spec. Polo, so it is probably a feature ...
