14k miles is nothing on a 5 year old car, and there's an argument that below average mileage can contribute to potential issues certainly on diesel models. Anyway, it's a pain. The car needs to be scanned with VCDS to pinpoint the source, whether damaged ABS sensor, chaffed wiring, etc.

Thanks for the replies.
To answer RUM4MO 's question, it's the cambelt model.
I suspect the sensation of no brake pedal pressure was caused by the ABS being applied as soon as she touched the pedal.
The car is due in a local garage tomorrow so I will let you know the outcome.

Thank you all for the replies.

I arranged for the car to be recovered to the local vw dealer through her car insurance recovery cover. The recovery guy noticed a hose that had become disconnected ( don't have more details ). This extinguishdd the EPC light. So wait and see now if it is ok ...

We have already have had one failure where the windscreen wipers could not be switched off and this needed a complete new wiper/indicator column assembly.

Just to close the thread ....

I took the car to a main dealer and the diagnostics code showed a fault with the switch. Now been replaced. Charged 1 hours labour plus cost of part £219 total.

Where is the rain sensor located ?
Would it be on the rear of the mirror?
I am fairly sure that she does not have a rain sensor on hers.

So, I have now bought a new switch assembly and it is being fitted on Thursday.
I believe that the assembly also includes various relays embedded in it.
Will let you know if this cures the problem.

It is £105 for the part.
The wiper and indicator switches are all one module that fit around the steering column.
Can get one from £20 upwards off a scrap car but not sure I want to risk it.

My daughter has a 64 plate 6Cpolo 1.2 tsi with less than 10k on the clock.

The wipers remain in intermittent wipe high speed when switched off, ie she cannot switch the wipers off.

Any ideas ?
