Hi,

My daughter has a 2014 1.2Tsi with just 14,000 miles on it.
She went out in it this morning and it was fine, but when she went to come home, the brake pedal went to the floor with no pressure and from what she said it sounded like the abs came on, even under normal gentle breaking. AA roadside assistance were called and disconnecting the abs seemed to cure the problem, although she said she now sees airbag warning lights and thd speedo is permanantly zero. Sounds like perhaps a sensor is faulty and the abs was activating as soon as she touched the brakes. Waiting for a garage to diagnose, but any thoughts would be most welcome.

I have to say this car has been awful. This is the third major fault. The first required complete replacement of the steering column switchgear because the wipers could not be switched off and the second was an expensive turbo problem. Awful on a car of this age, and mileage.

14k miles is nothing on a 5 year old car, and there's an argument that below average mileage can contribute to potential issues certainly on diesel models. Anyway, it's a pain. The car needs to be scanned with VCDS to pinpoint the source, whether damaged ABS sensor, chaffed wiring, etc.

Let us know the outcome and hopefully it's not too expensive.

The wiper switch issue is common across the Polo, Fabia and Ibiza, turbo trouble - is that engine the belt driven camshaft or the earlier chain driven one - chain driven one has turbo at the front, belt driven one has turbo at the rear of the engine, ie closest to the passenger cell.

Not good having these problems with such a young car, sounds almost as bad as my wife's previous 2002 Polo, bought new it emptied my wallet frequently from 4 years onwards, greedy nasty little beggar! Her 2015 1.2TSI 110PS SEL so far is good, and just about 30K miles.

Edit:- brake pedal going down to the floor is a bit nasty, surely that was caused by a broken brake line or inverted master cylinder seals, not good and nothing to do with the ABS - though maybe some other brake issues exist relating to the operation of the ABS - that is as long as the brake pedal really did go down to the floor and not something else happened that caused the sensation of a loss of braking effort.

Thanks for the replies.
To answer RUM4MO 's question, it's the cambelt model.
I suspect the sensation of no brake pedal pressure was caused by the ABS being applied as soon as she touched the pedal.
The car is due in a local garage tomorrow so I will let you know the outcome.

Okay, my question about the engine version was just to make sure that that car was indeed a 6C and not a late 6R just in case that made any difference to any ABS kit changes at model change.

Edit:- oh, and also to check if "turbo trouble" was with this belt driven version of the engine, which unfortunately it was, now I'm worried slightly!

I don't think the garage was 100% sure of the cause but everthing, including fault codes, pointed to the abs sensor, so that was replaced and the car seems ok so far.
