brakes

i am currently uinf the stock front calipers that come on the gti i think (bvm) but when i gio out on the local roads they cant handle the pace (to the point that i got my kevlar pads to fade to nothing this evening) so is there any way to up the braking power any more without going tooo mental on custom fab work?
for referance i am currently running the gti calipers, red dot kevlar pads, and omp drilled and grooved discs (16,4)

theres 2 disc diameters 239mm and 256 mm and i know that i use the 256 mm as thats what i fitted last

and its the only one with my caliper so unless im mistaken they are the same front brakes but possibly with bigger calipers which i shall try and look into later

You have the GTI calipers, with the 256mm GTI discs?

seems that way all i need for confirmation is for a gti owner to look throught his/her wheels and see whats embossed in the caliper (if its bvw then it looks like ill be hunting for golf brakes and doing a custom build up)

So the Mk5 GTI calipers bolted straight on. That's pretty cool.

Unfortunately, they won't bolt straight on a Mk 4, I'm sure!

no there my stock calipers but i think they might be a straight fit

okjust checked and it depends ont he wheel bearing housing
if you have the calipers that have 2 "prongs" that the pads sit on then you need to change the wheel bearing housing but if your caliper is totally seperate i.e. no prongs then its a straight bolt up

Just digging this up again-

Am I correct in saying that the 6N2 always has 256 mm discs up front, with a matching wheel bearing housing?

A topic on a German board led me to believe that if you have the facelift bearing housing (or the 6N GTI or Lupo GTI b.h.) you can simply bolt on the G60 brakes, which are 280mm. You'll need the calipers of course, but still.

Brakes are confusing...
