Upgrade from manual to remote

Post by Phil6N »

Im looking to convert my key to the switchblade type, and also would like to beable to use the buttons upon the key so i can have remote centrol locking, as i currently just have manual.

Is it possible to put a reciver within the car(that the switchblade key would able to be programmed to) that would enable the remote central locking? If so where could i get hold of such thing?

Iv seen this on ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 32690&rd=1
but would i beable to put the circuit and stuff from that remote into a switchblade key!
Cheers
Phil

(Didnt know which forum to put this in as i didnt know wether it would be specific for mk4's or to put in the electrical section, soz)

Hey, search for the thread about the golf central locking pump - ideas in there

A Votex upgrade kit would defo work... ive got it installed and its excellent, allows me to lock/unlock with a keyfob, flashers flash to let me know lock status and i can control total closure functions to open and close the windows thru the keyfob 8)

It just clips in-line with the central locking pump in the boot... 5min job, then just splice in the connections for the flashers on the light wiring loom

Pics in the thread I mentioned. VW Votex branded upgrade kit, but im sure its made by Cobra Alarms, fob is same

I bought that Gemini kit you link before the Votex, but I could not find a suitable help for the wiring and found it hard to find out which wire on the car loom for the central locking did what.. i did manage to get it to lock the car lol, but that was it, so gave up on that.

The keyfob in the Gemini is nice and small, but the pcb is round and would not fit in a normal vw keyfob and there is not much of the pcb you could cut, without damaging the circuit.

8) 8) :)

Hi Inder,

Am I right in thinking you've fitted this to a MK4 6n Polo?

If yes, does that mean that no separate window closure is needed as it utilises the car factory comfort locking system to close/open the windows as you would do with the key in the door lock barrel held in lock position and unlock postition?

Let me know as this will be just what I need.

Thanks

Hi,

Sorry, its fitted to a Mk5 6n2 Polo - not sure if will work on the Mk4 6n

The total closure will only function if thats in your car as a feature already, it won't add it for you

But yes, it utilises the car factory comfort locking system, as per the key in the lock barrel held as you mention and describe 8)

Hope helps :)
