Ford Fiesta facelift

Post by dxg »

Look like it's a plastic only (i.e. cheaper, no re-tooling) update:

Front looks a little Japanese to me (Updated Jazz, MK3 MR2).

Deek.

Looks very familiar to me...

This is the Fiesta that was launched here in 2002, with the large mirrors, round eyes and everything. Perhaps Ford is just "converging" the different models.

I like it - I've never been a fan of it's current front end!

(much like the 9N, but you didn't hear me say that!)

someone please tell me what the f***ing deal is with the indicators being inboard of the headlamps on so many new cars?

the fiesta's way behind the times on that anyway, should have just kept it trad with a full on corner indicator like the new panda etc :D

surely easier to see and from a lot more angles.....

PS just looks even more bland, ugly, and indistinguishable from a host of other little cars. Bring back the styling of the early 80s one! That was cutesy..

I'm not sure what's up with the indicators being inboard of the headlamps, but I sure hate them. Looks like it's a North American thing - the US-Canada-Mexico Focus had 'em - that Ford's introducing elsewhere.

I wouldn't worry about visibility though, at least not in the European cars that have side repeaters. The trouble begins when indicators are inboard and there are no side indicators to tell your intention to traffic that's not directly in front or behind you - that's the case with the South American model.

Come to that, I think that's the least of a Fiesta owner's problems - these things come with 3-point seatbelts at the rear that are not even retractable (you have to ajust them manually to your body using a "buckle" thing, I don't know how it's called in English).

The law requires that cars have 3-point seatbelts but doesn't say anything about them having to be retractable, you see. (or height ajustable, or mounted with pre-tensioners, etc. etc. etc.)

Anyway. I don't like its looks, I don't like the way they're built, I don't like the fact that it's a 'de-contented' car that costs as much to me as the 'full' car costs to european buyers.

For 1L car lovers though, the Fiest has an interesting model: the 1L 'Supercharger'. Yep, Ford installed a supercharger somewhere in that engine bay and turned the 66bhp Zetec-Rocam into a more respectable 95bhp machine.

So there. You get 1.4-litre performance at 2-litre fuel consumption.

Doen't exactly sell like hot cakes as you can imagine, but it's an intriguing car in its own, weird way. And it teaches a lesson or two about government meddling with the car market (the 1L tax break has produced some unbelievable oddities over here, like the 1L Gol Turbo I mentioned some time ago: 115bhp from 999cm³, 16V, VVT, Turbo and intercooler).
