long shot but can you help?

Post by matty2767 »

for about a week i have had a strange noise which seems to be coming from below the gearstick under acceleration.

it is like a cheeping sound (?) like two pieces of metal rubbing together very fast.

it doesnt do it when the car is completely cold nor when it has been running a while (say 1/2 hour).

it seems to be worst around 1800 rpm (it is a tdi) in any gear. but mostly when you at 30mph in forth. ie when you should change down but dont.

my first thoughts were one of the exhaust mounts but i took it to the garage and everything to do with the exhaust seems ok.

the problem i have is actually getting to the garage before it stops making the noise. i got the rac out and they thought it was the exhaust but they couldnt get under the car to check.

does the tdi need gear box oil. if so how do i check?

otherwise any other advice would be appreciated as this one is becoming annoying :)

thanks
