my 16v got wasted by a 106 gti

Post by 13twelve »

i was in a hurry sat night to get to town, wasnt boy racing, just driving quick

i over took a 106 gti on the m66 and he took after me.

then on the change from m66 to m60 you have to stop on a roundabout between the motorways.

on the launch up the hill onto the m60 he was right up my arse as i was really caning it.

then when the lanes of the motorway appeared at the end of the sliproad
he just peeled off and zoomed past me like it was no effort

arse!

(he waved as he went past and flashed his hazards, as seems common around my parts now)

I wouldn't mess with a 106 GTI they are quick... even better are the Rallyes ... stay away from any french pocket rocket.

I've got respect for them!

Gti's are actually faster than the rallyes, but if you put a Gti engine in a Rallye (as many do) then they fly. 130bhp in a 800 or 900 kg (cant rememeber) car.

Wouldnt like to be in one when it crashes tho!

106 GTI
0-60 = 8.7 s

Thats not hugely fast.. Polo Gti is 8.4, not sure how accurate these figures are though!

and the 16v is quoted at 9.9 on car stats - so I'm guessing they're both not too accurate

130bhp on the 106  those things must be super quick

sorry, saw 130bhp above

you're right - parkers quote 120bhp and 815kg roughly 150bhp a tonne  isn't that similar power to weight as a g40?

I'm gald to see on this forum we can be open to other marks and say nice things about them. Unlike other forums where they have eyes on VW's only!

Peugeot do there performance testing with half a tank of fuel and two passengers to keep the insurance grouping low. Hense its a group 13 and a Saxo (with the same engine) is group 14.

Yeh i got mixed up with the bhp, but rumour has it that some 106 Gti's did come out the factory with 130bhp ones with "three prongs" so im told :S
