2) My car isnt the standard weight
im sure Criz is pushing well over 100hp ... nearer the 115hp mark?

and weight reduction has a big effect

by all accounts, and amazing as it seems, criz's motor seems to be easily sub 8 seconds 0-60. it's a vts beater so it adds up that it can give a 106 a run for it's money. i would truely like to see it down the 1/4 mile so I can witness it for myself - i have to say i was a sceptic at first, but all the accounts he has seem to add up 8)

criz, what 1/4's are you running! i still reckon you got a super-16v out of the factory. the chermans were on a blinder they day they built your one.

also - get your motor down the public weigh-bridge - what do you reckon it's at kg-wise?

i knew 106 gti's where quick, but not that quick

i doubt a g40 would take on a 306gti and win, maybe 0-40 or so but on to 130 the 306 gti would cane it

but then if you wanted outright speed you could go buy an integra type r or an old suburu

i might need to invest in a custom exhaust and some other stuff to speed my 16v

i actually want an 8vs box in mine, cos the 5th on my 16v box is the same as the 4th gear on my 8v's

be less changing gears and alot lower revs at 70mph on the motorway (the 16v gear box is doing s**t loads of revs at 70mph - waay to many i think)

aye - one of the few faults with the 16v compared to the 8 - the gearbox makes for 4k rpm at 75

I dont think it was anything to do with the factory. When someone does the same mods as me and proves me wrong thats fine.

Like I said before I only have ever raced my car on a very wet track, 16.6 was my best. Im sure I can knock alot of that in the dry.

And Ive been meaning to have my car weighed for a while as no one is really sure of the weight of the mk4. Ive cut down close to 60kg in weight so far.

Get down to the pod this sunday chris!

Gotta be worth the drive!

DO IT!!!

Then you will have 1/4 times from the most accurate timing gear in europe - apparently

Well I wouldnt mind doing it some day to see what a proper 1/4 mile is like.

Still I dont fancy going down untill I really have something to shout about. Hoping my next mods will allow me to beat the 106 GTI's and VTS's alike instead of either sticking with them or just holding them off.

a friend of mine has a 106 gti with a simple exhaust and air filter combo,he brought me home from the battle cruiser in it the other night and i was very impressed at how it went.you could tell it was shifting though with all the knocks and rattles ,which i found a bit odd for an 03 plate motor.still quick though.

i can hold on to a 106! and my car is at least 60kg less than the standard GTi, i have no AC. no wonder you got wasted in the 16V. i don't know how i would go against a VTS, i can never seem to find any  . i had a race with a 2.0L corsa a few weeks ago. that was interesting. :?
