Jeez man, given the engine 'n' all, i'd have been proud. Did you make that in 2nd, or is it geared such that you have to grab 3rd to get past 50mph? (If so, then it's even better, getting 2 changes in..)

if you think that the next 1/8th of a mile would be taken at 54mph and above, rather than 0-to-54, the 1/4 time might not have been too terrible "for a 1 litre" (damn it, i promised myself i wouldnt say that :D)

At 55mph you need to change to 4th really.
It will rev further, but you dont really get any benifit of heading over 5.5k rpm in 1st-3rd gear.
I think both runs I was in third passing the speed trap.
Thats why I say the gearing is all wrong.
It should be much fater than it is.
The gearing is all I can put it down to.

I have a Polo 75hp engine and gearbox sat in my back garden.
There doesnt look any diffrence between the two boxes.
Ive never been able to find the ratios for both (?) to conferm, but I susspect it could have been pulled out the parts bin...

i think the 5 speed box for the old 1.0 was about as crazy, but you could rev that a little harder..... probably get 70 out of it on the redline in 3rd (though still in that gear before 50...) and just past 90 in 4th...

GT not so bad as the diff is a touch longer (on some of them), as is 4th (an extra 5-6mph or so all in) and certainly 5th gear.

Course it doesnt hurt that the GT was made to rev.... putting such a box on a more "lazy" type engine is about as good an idea as putting a diesel box on that same GT ;)

Though I bet it really IS good at pulling caravans up hills, should you so desire.

i think maybe i just have some kind of hangup about vehicles that wont do 80 in 3rd, or 55 in 2nd, and have their top speed in 5th rather than 4th

I agree mate.
I love third, fourth and fith gears.
It was great for driving, as if you didnt need to stop at lights all the time (which I dont) then you can supprise a lot of cars out there.

I had an almost straight through system last year, and all touque was lost.
It was faster out on the open roads, but through the village at low revs it was crap.

I changed to a Jextex system this year, and the diffrence is massive.
Much better.
Revs almost as well as it did with the side pipe, but pulled alot better in the gears.

I had a 1.0 a while back, and I have to say it.
It was quicker than mine.

What car do you have?
The 1.0 in mine, loses power from a after market air filter due to the TBs being at the rear of the engine bay.
I heard a remap can be quite successful, but I have never seen any (or really looked tbh) hard proof.

There isnt alot of information about the performance of a 1.0L because no body has ever bothered putting decent money into one. The simple fact is that its cheaper to just buy a new higher powered car. I started off with a 1.0L Polo, then got a 1.4 and now i have a GTi, a path i can really recommend.

Its really weird having double to power in the same car!! Im pretty used to the GTi now tho, which is a bad thing because i end up doing 100 everywhere because it feels so slow! You can cruise at 100 with minimal effort and if you put your foot down it still pulls!
