Clear Indicators & Red Rear Lights

Post by jazzypolo »

Just bought a V-reg 1.6cl and want to put some better looking lights on the front and back.
I've read about the Mk5 red light conversion on the back which seems the way to go. However when it comes to clear front indicators do you have to get them from an accessories company or did VW ever produce them ?

The clear front indicators came on the 1.6GL and GLX, 16V and SE models.

Try http://www.eurocarparts.com

For the mk5 red rear ones ask Martyn from VAGparts on here.

Cheeers for the info on the rear lights and indicators.
Had a look at the europarts web page for indicators and they list several different Clear/White types.
Are Clear and White indicators the same thing ? If so I'm guessing that the ones I want are.
N/S/F INDICATOR LAMP (WHITE) POLO 05/97 Left White 6NW 500000>
O/S/F INDICATOR LAMP (WHITE ) etc. etc.
Would Martyn at VAG have them for the same sort of price, cause I'll probably get the rear lights from him anyway ?
My Polo is a '99 V- reg.

Hi Jazzypolo,

*Welcome!*

Here's what ETKA (VW parts catalog) produced for the 1999 model:

> 6N V 500 000

6N0 953 041 C (white, left) and 6N0 953 042 C (white, right)

> 6N W 500 000

6N0 953 041 E (white, left) and 6N0 953 042 E (white, right)

That means you'll need to check the chassis number to figure out in which of these two groups your car fits.

Good luck!

Hi Alex

Thanks for the details about original VW indicators.

I still seem to have a problem though, or it's probably me being a bit thick.

My chassis No. is WVWZZZ6NZXY

The car is a 1.6 CL which was first registered 10/09/1999.

I think it must have been one of the last Mk4's produced, because it's got loads extra's ( ie Air Con/ABS/Fog Lights) that you usually don't get on the CL models unless the dealers are trying to shift them because the new model (ie MK5) is just around the corner.

You'll need to look at the latter part of your chassis number, but yours is the late model.

So, it's the bottom of the two, since your number ends with XY (+some digits) it's later than W.

My car has a VY number (1997), so it's the top one for me.

Hope it makes sense now!
