Lose Plug in the engine bay

Post by wul3er »

HELP Again

After my mate puting the gearbox back in, i have found this lose plug under the engine bay. Right now the car wont start but i think that it is due to a dead battery because i had it started 2 days ago.

I dont think it is the speedo cable, as the speedo still works as does the rev counter. There is a strange light came on, on the dash. If i remember correct is a Amber circle with a triangle inside then a exclamation mark inside that. (i might be wrong though)
My mate is now on holiday and im wanting to try and get the car back on the road asap.

Heres a pic of the Plug. The wires are Brown, Black & White.

The wire on it cant really go far.
This bit is hard to describe but i'll try my best. The bit that the plug goes into would be 3 pins and this would be the female end.

After having a quick look in the Haynes manual for removing the gearbox, the 2 plugs that seem to get removed is the Reverse sensor and the speedo. If the speedo still works, does anyone think it could be the Reverse sensor.

Were would this plug into, so i could check.

The symbol which you describe sounds very much like one on my other car (not a VW i might add) It sounds like it might indicate a problem with either the ABS or the traction/stability control (ESP).

Not being completely clued up on VW specs, but does your car have either of these functions, if so are they working ok?

it may not have anything to do with the box itself, he could of just took it apart to get the box out see if you can see any other plugs which arnt together, have a good look around

I've thought about that, But i still cant see anything, but i could be overlooking it and not realising.

What i done was seen how far the wire could go reach then looked around those area's but so far i've had no joy.
Doesnt help now that i cant walk, but thats a differnt story.

You'd better find where the wire goes before you lose all bodily functions!

(sorry! )

I thought that the Circle with a Traingle in it only ever came one , the first time after disconnecting the battery...

AFAIK it is like a mini fuse check and i looked it up !!

Im not 100% sure thats what it is, but it done that on my polo after reconnecting / blowing a fuse - then it would never come back on untill u blew fuses / disconnected battery for a while.

This plug u get it in ?

Part number will be embossed on the plug itself, rather small text in the same colour as the plug... :)
