I was driving round the other day and i realised that my brakes were pants. So i was wondering how much a brake conversion would cost. I own a 97 R reg 1.4 8v polo. has anyone had a conversion or even done a DIY transplant , if so any advice or info would be much appreciated.
Also as i plan to lower my car by 40mm, and i was thinking about wheel spacers. I have 15" alloys with 195 tyres and an et of 38 (I think), my dad says i shouldnt do it cos it could make the handelling worse, has anyone had experience with spacers, again any advice or info would be much appreciated
I need more stopping power !
ive had spacers on motors before and i dont think theyre ideal, mines on normal 50mm drop wi spring n shox and its mint,,the handling is unreal, ive found in the past an upgrade in discs and pads, black diamond or ferodo (not EBC in my opinion) are always a good way of stopping you quicker but always wear quicker,,probably coz u tend to use em much harder, speaking of brakes i need a new set.

The standard 16v brakes are pretty good IMO. I'd go for Pagid or Ferodo pads, but I agree with Rich16v and wouldn't go anywhere near EBC (I've been there, it wasn't fun). If you wanted to go all out though I'm informed you can do a 280mm conversion (there's a thread on the Chassis forum) without too much trouble, but this would be more expensive and you'd need 15" rims.
On the suspension subject, I'm thinking of lowering my 16v about 30mm, but just using springs with standard shocks. Have people got experience/opinions on this and how the handling will be affected?
Thanks
