Service sigh appears under milage, Plzz Help!

Post by depzpolo »

Hi there,

I have bought my polo 4 months ago and have done a full service.

Infact it hasn't given me any trouble at all and still is beautiful.

It it a polo 1.4L S reg, 1999

today for the first time i have noticed something which im abit worried about.

in the morning i went to the airport at 5am and also around 2/3 places in london have have driven the car for a good 2/3 hours but have took breaks for 10 minz.

however in the evening after returning home i have noticed a SIGN underneith my MILAGES saying SERVICE OIL.

it flashes with SERVICE OIL.

i then have checked the car if it needed any but the oil is normal and has a good amount according to the level.

then i thought ill leave in for 15minz and check but still it say SERVICE OIL.

ive checked the WATER aswell but everything is normail infact the cars perfect not giving me any trouble but just this sign.

I was worried and i think before something bad happens i must sort this out.

i would be grateful if anyone can help and tell me what it is.

could it be cause the car is still hot and maybe thats why its coming up with that sign. should i leave it overnight and see next morning?

i even ask a frend of mine to check the oil for me just to see if it was ok and he said the oil level is perfect and fine. everything is ok.

but he's not an mecanic.

anywayz plz can someone advice me if still is a major problem. Also i have done a full service when i bought the car 4 months ago and have done about 1500 miles since then.

thanks

LOL

have no fear!

it's just a set indicator at xxxx miles to tell you you need to change the oil. usually vw reset it once they have changed the oil or serviced the car. it can't have been reset before, so it's come on now. it doesn't measure your quality or level of oil, it just comes on automatically after a set amount of miles.

There is no problem with this. To reset it you need to

1) Turn ignition off
2) Hold down the mileage reset button (keep holding)
3) Turn ignition on 2 clicks to get the lights on the dash up and keep holding the mileage button
4) Wait 15 secs or so (keep holding that button :))

and the warning will go, or turn to an oil warning - do this procedure for each warning

hey presto!
