So are you going to pay £425 for them? thats the set right?

I'm soo cheap... I'm deliberating whether to spend money to get my wheels bored out to the correct size and maybe repaint/relaquer them :oops:

Yeah, I haven't seen them cheaper anywhere else. I've gone for the sensible option as well and wait til the end of the Month and see how much money I've got floating around the place, but it's definately that set on my list whenever I get them

Right I'll try to sort out the popular myths

Spacers are sometimes the only way to get the wheels you want to fit the car you have properly - ie simplistic example here (all widths and rim sizes staying the same - if they only make the wheel you want in ET 59 and your car is ET38 then to make em fit you are gonna need 21mm spacers.

Spacers are fine provided

1. If 5mm - 10mm

- Longer wheel bolts (add the spacer length to your original bolts and order accordingly and you'll be fairly close - you need 7 turns of the wheel bolt min and 9 turns max)

- the Hub centre still protrudes far enough for the wheel centre to sit on it and keep it running true

2. if bigger than 10mm

- longer wheel bolts are starting to get iffy - can be done but best solution is a spacer which bolts to the hub and has new threaded holes to bolt the wheel too

- They need to mirror the Hub ie have a locating boss for the wheel that is the same dimension as the hub

So what is dangerous

- fitting spacers on hubs and then using the original wheel bolts

Your wheels can come off !!!

- fitting spacers that overlap the hub centre boss with no substitute hub boss

You could get cronic wheel wobble or balance problems

Like most things ask first - measure twice - cut once

I've read we can put ET35-45 on the polo... the wheels I have are et45... would that mean I need a spacer at all? or just put them straight on?

Right - ET

What is it!!!!!

Its the measurement from the centre line between the two rim edges to the hub mounting face

Inner Rim > I.......................I < Outer Rim

Centre line > .........!
hub mounting face > I

ET = This Dimens'n > <

So ET 0

Inner Rim > I.......................I < Outer Rim

Centre line >..........!
hub mount'g face >I

ET = 0 Dimension ><

So ET 30

Inner Rim > I.......................I < Outer Rim

Centre line > ..........!
hub mounting face ......>I

ET = 30 Dimension >30mm<

Right so higher the ET (compared to OE dimension) the more the inner edge of the rim is gonna get close to your springs, struts, roll bar, steering arms, wishbones, arch liners etc etc

Best way to check is to look at how much clearance you have now at straight ahead and full lock either way then take the difference between the std ET and the new ET and see if you go negative - cos thats bad!!!

Hey everyone, just thought I'd bump my old thread to say I ordered them from RTec yesterday..

http://www.rtecshop.com/?p=product_view&product_id=3930

Cheap price I thought, and I got 45 tyres as suggested! 8)

Only problem being the 1 and a half week wait....I don't think I care. I was bothered at first, but for that price Im sure I can wait.

Hey people ! I got the rims through today :D very pleased! Was gonna get 'em on today, but my car's going to VW on Saturday so they can go on then when it's on the ramps
Phil6N wrote: I had trouble fitting the rear wheels, i bolted the wheels to the car, then went to put the center cap on, n it wouldnt fit over the bearing cap(ahhh), so i took the wheel off, prized off the bearing cap put the wheel back on, and the centre cap still didnt go on, so i ended up putting spacer on the rear wheels,(8mm i think).

Just ordered some bilstein lowering kit for it 60mm drop(should look ace), will post pics when it's on the car!

^^ I know what you mean now mate! I fitted 1 at the rear today, and the centre cap popped out and wouldn't go back on. Does anyone know where to get spacers from and would 8mm be alright...do they exist? I don't wanna sound daft when I go in halfrauds and ask for a size which either won't work for me, or just don't exit, hehe!

Did you get any pics of it lowered dude? I really want mine done now, coilovers next month I think...can't be doing with it looking like a tractor.

Will get pics of it soon after saturday 8)

you'll be fine for now. I'm sure they're not going to hit your springs and struts and so on. just be wary to start with, listen out for noises etc

Cheers mate! They seem fine, its just that the centre cap won't go on and that's all.

Quite glad I did try one on last night....I had a squeeking noise everytime I put the handbrake on, or brake when moving........and now I haven't, awesome !

I'll put some pics up when they're all on 8)

Id try to aviod driving in the rain if you can , cause those caps protect your rear wheel bearings, stop them from any dust and bits of dirt from getting in there. The 8mm spacing im using are universal for the both types of 4stud wheel.
Heres some pics when the springs and shocks first went on:

they've settled in an lowered slightly more now, just waiting for a good day to take some more photos.
Hope that helps dude!

Cheers matey! As in my PM, Im going halfrauds in the morning.

Yours is looking rather cool mate, got an idea of how mine should look now!

How much was the entire lowering kit dude? I'm hoping for coilovers by the end of the year, but if you recommend what you've got then I could be tempted. I'm definately liking that drop you've got going there! What's it like over speedbumps and all that?

Pics will be up tomorrow evening sometime 8)
