Remote central locking.

Post by Nick »

Hi all,

I have a '99 V 1.4 16v.

The car has central locking, but it's the old 'key-in-the-door' style.

Can i easily convert to remote central locking, without having the expense of getting the Cat1 alarm upgrade?

Any thoughts appreciated,

Nick.

Thanks very much for the info - seems to be just what i'm after!

I know the Polo has a pneumatic locking system, so i'd appreciate it if you could find out whether it would fit, or not?

I spoke to my local dealer about it, and he came up with a 'central door lock kit' - part number 862VAG002, but i'm not sure if this is the right thing. He didnt have one in stock for me to see, but it was about the same price.

If possible, please let me know if it will fit the Polo, without too much hassle,

Thanks again,

Nick.

Cheers Nick, you took the words right out of my head.

When Ash gets his Mod List sorted and I can order my lights, remote central locking could well be next on my list.

Easy to get that one past the missus, cause her sister's got a crappy 2000 Clio 1.4 Sport with remote locking and you know what sibling rivalry is like !

Just putting my latest Jazz Club compilation together. Nice

Just been outside in the dark to test the total closure on my polo.

Being in the middle of nowhere I couldn't see a ****ing thing.

Got a V reg like Nick and it didn't work for me. No surprises there then.

Should have bought an A3 instead.

I think that the Polo comes standard with a Cat2 immobiliser, and you can upgrade to a Cat1 alarm/immobiliser VW system (i think it's Scorpian) for about £250, at your local dealer.

I'm really just interested in the remote C/L though,

the vw immobiliser comes standart on all models since about 96 i beleve and the way you can tell is to open up your key (as if you wanted to change the batery for the useless lamp) then look inside for a tiny grey cuboid which transmits a signal that is recuved by a module within the steering collom (sp?) and this allows the ecu to turn on

My key doesnt have the lamp?, but i'm sure it would still open up, although i dont want to, as i'll probably break it!

depends on if its stock central locking, if so trace the wires from the key barrel into the cabin and then test to see which becomes live when you lock and vice versa and bobs your 3 times removed and half related uncle/nephew

polo2k,

Any luck in verifying that the A3 system will fit into the Polo?

Cheers,

Nick.
