Stoopid accidents

Post by Barney »

Hey just wondering if any of you lot have had any stoopid accidents cos i think i have one that'll take the biscuit

Let me set the scene- it was boxing day 2004 and i'd had my licence less than two months, still high on the excitement of christmas i went out for a drive with some mates and i was coming home down an empty stretch of downhill motorway with my mate sat in the passengers seat.

I started by just cruising at 60mph, then thought i know i'll coast down, so into neutral it went, so there i was coasting down this motorway when i thought it would be funny to turn the ignition off and then on again to watch the dials flick up to 60. After a couple of goes at that i got bored so i stopped it and went back to coasting.

It was at this point when my mate had a brainwave and said "Bet you daredn't take your keys out" so driven by my machismo i did , just to prove him wrong, so there we were coasting down the motorway with my keys in my hand. Fuelled by adrenaline i descided to waggle the steering , BAD IDEA , the steering lock came on, so there i was drifting closer and closer to the central reservation frantically stabbing my key at the ignition with no avail, we hit the central reservation and ran down the side of itfor about 2o metres.

Anyway now to the damage. there was a scrapeing dent running from my front indicator to my rear arch, i took the car to a reputable vw dealer and the repair bill was £1300, so i claimed on the insurance and they think i slid on ice, o and so do my parents.

Anyone think they can better that one!!!!!!

Yeah, not the best idea. I don't know anyone that's had "stoopid" accidents, I know people that have been pissed off with people that crashed into them by doing stupid things though.

Driving over the speed limit is a fact of life, but doing things like that is just asking for trouble.

I've heard something similar in one of those group email joke jobbies a few years ago.

Did you really do that?

I'd delete the post if I were you, because it's making you look pretty idiotic.

Well not sure what to say here......

Brave of Barney to set himself up to be shot at with this post.......

Please keep you comments aligned with the incident

ie

- daft thing to do etc etc

And as far away as possible from

- a personal attack on Barney or we will have a repeat of the weekends fun again

What is it with the last few days - did we all go to confession or is there something in the water?

ok, here's one back on track

after filling up my newly purchased megane at a fuel station (the owner kindly gave me zero fuel), I went to reset the mileage reading. I did this pulling out of the station (i.e. turning). stupidly though, I stuck my hand through the steering wheel spokes to get to the reset button, not realising that I would need to turn the wheel back to straighten up. but my arm was in there. so I couldn't steer too well when I tried (think piece of wood in bicycle spokes).......

my brain stopped working and I only just managed to retreive my arm before driving into the kerb...... very embarassing.

sorry barney, I can sympathise with the damage, but you could have really hurt someone!

I guess you only do that once.

i've done the exact same stupid boredom trick as well, but only at about 25.... still made me crap myself even in the middle of the night, empty road! can well understand it ... but maybe not on the m'way lol

had a few corkers myself but nothing recently thank christ

put a tree branch thru door of mums punto... reversing... at 3mph. icy gravel is surprisingly trecharous! you'd think it grippier than plain ice but ohhhhh no

damn near killed myself and 4 others locking all the tyres up on a misjudged 100mph sliproad exit (it was only about 200m long, not the 500-ish i judged it at first)

in fact did loads in that bloody thing, like taking wet traffic light turns far too quickly and sliding full-on into the corner kerb (quite a tall one, covered in grass that became mud) in front of four directions of backed up traffic :D sure i heard a cheer or two!

think im a bit calmer these days but hey yknow... its surely only a matter of time. it'll probably be a two-car or more event too, as its probably going to be down to trusting someone else's judgement too much (what with the rapidly becoming ever more appalling standard of driving these days)

Ok... I've not had an accident but I've had one hell of a close call....

Was on a lunch break, so went to mcd's with a workmate.
I zoomed past some big round-about and onto a road back to work.... I see ahead trafic light just turned green and 2 cars at the lights... I notice 2 girls on the path & couldn't resist having a look, so I turn back around only to see a car about 2 meters ahead... Slam the brakes & stop about a millimeter away from him... My Milkshake flew and hit the windscreen (haha funnyly enough it didnt spill). So anyways I turn right a park up as nothing had happened..
