fan not blowing particularly hard...

Post by dug »

hi there,

the fan on my wife's polo doesn't seem to blow all that hard, i mean, even when you put it on full, it makes alot of noise, but not alot of air seems to get through... making it pretty hot when driving in the sun...

is it possible that a filter or the pipes are clogged up with leaves and stuff? i haven't got the haynes manual, so anyone know where best to look for clogged ventalation on a polo 6n?

thanks.

Clean the pollen filter out - don't know how to get to it, but it's from under the bonnet......

Its in the top right of your engine bay, but its covered by the scuttle panel (where your wiper motor & linkage is)

There might be a few screws, can't quite remember....and there's also this to pull of as shown in this diagram...

(The circled yellow bit if some rubber to pull off, the area of black above it is the scuttle planel to remove. The screws might be located under the rubber of the windscreen...or there might not even be any...but im sure there is)

As said before, the pollen filter is the top right and it should be clearly visible. If you take it out, underneight is the heater motor.

Hope that makes sense, its pretty easy.

No problem! If you need a new filter, mine was about £4.

If you need the motor, I saw this on ebay coincidently!

Could probs pick it up cheaper at the scrapper though or VAG parts

cheers, i think i'll stop by eurocarparts this afternoon and pick one up.

by the way, i found this DIY guide:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?i ... 84#9038884

it might be useful, the car in the photos is a left hand drive '99 jetta, so i guess on right hand drive vw's, the location of the pollen filter is reversed.

the scuttle panel in this guide appears to have already been removed, or possiblly there wasn't one on the model in the photos...

might not be identical to the 6n polo, but i think it'll be pretty close!
