Changing lenses and insurance?

Hi,

I'm changing all the lenses on my polo for hella colours.

Is this an insurance declaring mod????????

All the lenses are E marked so suitable to pass MOT,

Any views appreciated.

I rang my insurers (liverpool victoria) about whether they'd insure me on alloys...and they said yeah no problem, no extra cost.

I asked them about my lenses, and I think she basically said they didn't care.

The things you really have to declare are bodykits, alloys, engines mods, roll cages....I had a list of mods that you had to declare somewhere...

Dont worry about your lights IMO, although there's no harm in calling anyway

I'll give my insurance a bell to see what they say.

I've noticed one thing though, I have to fit nasty looking red reflectors to the bumper to pass the MOT. Spoils the look

Hey mate, ive got abc design lights and you dont have to have the reflectors on all the time. i just keep them in my boot and stick em on with blue tack or double sided when its mot time. The feds wont stop u for em either, and if they do just give them the 'they dropped off just now so i will stick them back home when i get home' excuse, works fine

imo, i dont think its worth declaring small cosmetical modds that can be easily taken off. i aint declared any of my modds including wheels and k&n induction kit. so long as u keep the original bits you'll be okay. im going to declare the wheels as its probably better to, but will do this once its lowered too.

it's at your own risk - technically your car isn't insured.

telling them about lights and so on shouldn't affect your premium (except a small admin charge of around 15 quid). because they are small cosmetic details. but they need to know of ANY modifications. It's in the contract. Of course it's up to you, but that's my word of warning.

Wheels are not easy to remove if you write your car off, and the scrap lorry tows it away or the cops impound your car........ and they would definitely invalidate your insurance (not sure about 3rd party claims)
