I was glad to have cars in common with richard (the re-trimmer) because we had differences in opinion's over cars so there was always something to argue out in a good way of course. and yet because there was a big age gap between us there was a lot of stuff we didnt have in common that worked well too.
The thing with me and matthew was that he forced me to like his interests and ignored all of mine not good.

Just read this post and am glad things are sorted out. I aint particularly good at givin relationship advice cus i aint had too many proper relationships. I tend to build extremely good friendships with lasses so a relationship is out of the question. If the guy you've just dumped starts been a stalker or somet, let us know........The UK-POLOS.Net possy will go round and "kick his ass"

Seriously tho, hope your happier now and i'm sure you'll find a new guy very soon. (maybe at the next car meet!)

Mat

P.S If your ex was called Matthew he'd best not have given my name sake a bad reputation. My name is Mathew but with only one "t", which means i'm special and not a bunny boiler like he appears to be!

the letter option seems good, that way you can explain how you feel you find it hard to talk face to face, why you feel how you do,and where you feel its gone wrong,(if it has) .plus you can always rip it up and start again if it doesnt sound right, which isnt so easy when having a face to face chat.a tricky one.feel like jerry springer now....

out for a drink, a quick heart to heart and a "sorry but this just isnt working out / working for me" whatever kind of talk ..... be firm, if he wimpers/weeps dont fold under, its not right to keep a crap relationship going because one person has trouble letting go.

doesn't have to take all night.

he may hate you for it (make sure you're not in a vulnerable situation) but hopefully, he'll get over it... in fact if he was getting bored by having nothing in common it might be welcome freedom and he's not got up the courage to make the first move - yet.

(been dumped in similar but far less thought-out/caring manner, for similar "not actually compatible" reasons, and i was the more hopeful ... after a couple days realised she was right, still not quite with it for a while but well over it - if it really was doomed then the feelings should fade)

not that im like an expert in this, but that way certainly worked

/not reading 4 pages of this stuff tonight, sorry ... hope im not repeating or too late
