[:x] our 1300 f reg reg polo has started to play up big time
seems totaly random , it runs perfect the all of a sudden looses nearly all power and refuses to go,the only way to carry on is by redlining it and driving like a loon , then all of a sudden it will be sweet again
when its playin up , it doesnt seem to misfire, just sod all power and lots of kangerooing etc
ive just brought new leads and a coil [:s]
anyone any ideas...hall sender maybe
1300 nearly broke down...random prob??

yeah I was going to say sounds like fuel starvation. My derby had the same prob when I bought it. Fuel filter had been replaced but on inspection there was no petrol in it (but tank was full) So suspect was either a knackered fuel pump or blocked lines. Tried changing the pump first (easier job) and that sorted it. But if theres fuel in the filter then you can rule that out i suppose.
carb icing
mine had the exact same prob...just didnt really do any kangarooing but everything else happen..
a few people said fuel starvation..so i check all the fuel lines and the filter and did the H.T leads and dizzy.....but still the same problem!!!
Eventually i found out it was carb icing which is a really problem with the pierburgs and most of the other carbed polos.......
took it to a garage and had the carb cleaned and tuned and the choke sorted out...it hasnt done it since but i have heard that the best way to solve to problem once and for all is to get a new weber!!!
it mite be more expensive but would be better in the long run!!
any help ???

carb icing
well the standard carbs on early volkswagens.....especially polos are naff!!
generally put in good service for the first 60,000 miles then just go down to pot!!
they are also unpredictable so its dosent supprise me that it happen on a hot day....even tho it mainly happens at night!!
its only a suggestion anyway check it and see......also if youve looked at you ignition components dizzy etc and they are ok and youve also checked your fuel lines, it must be sumin with ur carb!!
give it a clean and a reset and see
cheers
