Exactly - they can't even get a brake light bulb type right!!!! MKV lights take a twin filiment combined tail and brake light - get a life!!!hardhitter wrote:don't go to halfords in the first place, let alone take thier advice.

urrm ok how does that work you will notice a incrase in pedel travel??bstardchild wrote:DOT 4 any makedubpolo wrote:Mine runs on semi, and that’s what it tells you in the book.
I like semi - main reason being it's easy to switch either way - mineral to fully synth is seriously bad news
Ian, bit of change to the subject but what brake fluid would you recommend?
- fer c's sake don't use fully synthetic brake fluid (scary stuff that is)
- marketing plus - it won't damage your paint work and doesn't absorb water so boiling point is a constant over the lifetime of the fluid
negative point - you may notice an increase in pedal travel WTF!
- Ian's points - Don't spill it (non synthetic brake fluid) and your paint works fine - change it every year and water absorption is minimal![]()
True situation - OMG pedals hit the floor!!! I put it in the LC and I can tell you stopping two tonnes of car at 180 mph and having the pedal on the deck is not nice or clever - changed it straight back to normal DOT 4 and instantly got the brakes exactly how I want them.
PS I use an easi bleed so no there wasn't any air in the system
unless you can compress the fluid ( seems illogical due to simple physics ( fluids dont compress) )

I was told it was very possible to get an increase in brake pedal travel in systems designed for "non" synth brake fluid and experience bore out that fact.warrmr wrote:urrm ok how does that work you will notice a incrase in pedel travel??

It is apparently incredibly difficult to change from mineral to synth - I used 4 litres of the stuff to fully flush the system thro - that wasn't cheap!!!
When you change the brake fluid it's fantastic - the brakes feel sharp and crisp - I change it every year on all my cars - when I changed mine to synth they initilly felt sharp and crisp but after a very short while the feel went away and I was left with softer brakes - this doesn't happen so quickly with mineral fluid in fact it happens so slowly you don't notice it untill you change the fluid again......
I think it must be due to the incompatability between the two types of fluid and I can't have got all the fluid out.... I am surprised by that after using 4 litres but on that basis would not recomend it to anyone with a car filled with mineral brake fluid
So in summary I would say if your car already has synth or mineral fluid then stick with whatever it has and don't try and change types
