Lowering?

Post by ukmic »

Well Finally got my GTI wheels on! look amazing, now for the lowering im looking to go about 60 front and rear with just some lowering springs for the time being, can the shocks hold well? and will 60 be ok on 195/45/R15 without any scrubbing? if so what about 40mm?

Cheers!

Oh yes forgot to ask, anyone happen to know a decent place to buy lowering springs from? I would like blue ones preferably but not a big fuss im looking at needforspeed.co.uk just under £100 for 60mm springs

Yeah thats a fair price for exhaust (considering it a 10min job) makes me laugh when some try saying £40  cant help but laugh in their face.

Yea Id appreciate if you'd let me know how much the lowering is

Thanx

mate, im assuming your on about putting 60mm springs on standard shocks. It will be fine for now, but they wont last very long, and plus its risky as they can jump out of the cups if not careful

My advise is that if your going to lower on standard shocks, only go for a 40mm drop and even this needs to be designed for use on standard shocks. Companys that do these are like P.I , and Eibach.

a mate at a garage told me my shocks wouldn't last very long once lowered

19 months on and 20k miles and they're fine

but....

my bird's car had been lowered the same amount for over 3 years on 8v oil-filled dampers, and no trouble whatsoever - so I think in general it's a good rule of thumb, but for vw's it seems the shocks are well built.

granted, the ride isn't the best tho! but vw shocks seem to be well built in my experience. my golf shocks were the same - still on the car 5 years after I've owned it.

I would definitely buy lowering shocks once these ones wear out - but they haven't done so far.....

So 40mm should be safe without new shocks, anyone know anywhere that does them cheaper than £90 for a 40mm drop?
