Pics from VW Mania @ De Nekker, Mechelen (B)

Post by Speedlaw »

Slightly disappointing to me, but that could be down to the fact that I couldn't find the camping (duh). Also, there was muchos confusion about this meeting, it got off to a late start, had it's name nicked, it's location nicked, then got it's name back, but still had trouble getting it off the ground.

The sentiment was shared by others, except from some that were on the campsite. All in all, it was apparently less busy than other years, and I'd expected it to be busier too.

Westside (UK) was there too, which was nice, to help the meeting's international atmosphere.

Enough chit-chat, let's see some pics.

Yeah he did steal it. On the bright side, at least you know it looks good for sure, right? Perhaps if I hadn't just gotten the R10's I'd get them too...

And a roof rack!

Nice Pics Alex

The VR6 Bi-Turbo looks like my kinda motor. Was gonna buy a Mk3, but the missus talked me into the polo instead.

Still thinking bout that 1.8T I saw in that German Polo.

Might try that with a camper roof conversion.

yeah - been planning it for it since last year.

accident damaged car though - so i thought i'd get the engine sorted (the most difficult bit) and then i can sort the rest.

But not sure if there's a fault with my donor engine or loom though cause it wont idle. but the projects been shelved now till i get some more cash.

I spoke to another 1.8 convert the other day, and he had trouble getting it started again - meaning it started up and idled, but after that he couldn't get it started up anymore. Weird.

So how did you manage the engine mounts? And the drive shafts?

dont know the nitty gritty bits, cause it hasn't been me doing the mechanics (i'm more a theory person, it all goes wrong when i pick up a spanner!)

from what i can gather its very similar to the G60 one in members rides, lots of custom work -cutting mounts from donor golf then welding them to the polo bay drive shafts (as far as i am aware) are cut down to size, but we obviously don't know how these will cope with the power increases on the road.

think the idle problem may be an immobiliser fault on the old car that has carried over
