right then last chance before i do it

Post by polo2k »

right then ive been wittering on about doing some ice work recently so heres what the system should be like as long as it all goes well

Cabling
0 gauge cable all the way through
all gold plated fuse holders and distribution blocks
1x 1.0 farad capasitor
all gold plated and sheilded rca leads

speakers and amps
2x 10" sony X-Plod subs
running off a 760w amp in 2 channel 4Ohm
1x 12" sony P5 sub
running off a specially designed amp for it at 1300w max
2x 6x9`s (switchable) running off the headunit
im keeping theese switchable for a little rear fill
1x focal 165 K3 fully intergrated into the front doors in custom builds
the 165 K3 contains 2x65mm mids 2x100mm mids and 2x45mm tweeters all rated at 100w rms (200w max) there are also active cross overs within this kit.

so can any one see any problems with this bit of tom foolery?
for a head unit ill prolly be going alpine btw with 3 rca outs (1 front 1 rear and 1 sub at 4v) and 1 rca input for the dvd player

do u need that much bass in a polo? 2 twelves's 2 ten's??

I personally wouldnt have the 6x9's in the back either.. rear fill?? POR cars dont have that.

sounds like your gonna achieve your main objective - have to agree with Envy about the 6x9s though, i would prefer to put some mids in the back - no need for the bass fill in the back!

no 2x 10" and 1 x 12"
since i will prolly be entering competitions for sound soon the more the better as regards to spl and for sql i might concider another set of the focals for the rear doors

as for the 6x9`s its not certain but i like the idea because then i can shut off the subs and have bass at normal levals incase i need to ... like erm i dunno... a funeral or summat

Im going to be doing a big install in my mk5 soon, Im currently rebuilding my ICE as all my last stuff got nicked
But im putting a 15" JBL in the back in a custom made box that will take up all the space in the boot.

good plan but if your willing to do a little work everything can remain accesable and you wont loose all the boot

POR cars only have bass in the back, and all the imaging comes from up front.

I used this theory in my Golf install, running 2 twelves in the back, and Rocky Fosgate components up front. The subs were run off a mono block Rocky amp, and the comps off a 2 channel Rockford amp.

The mono block was fed by the 4v pre out my Alpine deck, and the 2 channel amp off the front pair of preouts. Using only the preout with no speakers off the headunit kept the deck a lot cooler then it runs now in my polo with a pair of 6x9's on it..

With the rear subs running n the 4v sub-out means that the bass level is easily controlled by the sub gain control on the deck.

My first setup was a single Rocky 12 with a pair of Rocky 6x9's out back, and JBL comps up front. Then I sold the 6x9's to fund the Rocky front components, and can honestly say that I didnt miss the 'rear fill'. Infact it sounds better with out it.

What's POR?

I have to second the comments on the 6x9's though. If you're entering SPL contests, you can win by having only three channels. Highs never come from the back, and imaging and staging is crucial.

Also,

Get the clearest and loudest (in terms of volts) signal to the best amp that runs the components up front. The main objective should be to make them sound as good as they possibly can. They'll lack bass, so you can add one or more subs. I'd go for one or *perhaps* two 12" subs, since they're a good compromise between speed and low frequencies. Ten's are nice, but usually lack depth. I can see why you have both, though. 15's are too slow, unless you get some really high end stuff. Still...

No use for ovals, or even rear speakers, unless you're really into pleasing your rear passengers. I haven't had rear speakers in 5 years. Too bad, cheapskates ;)

Also, if you're serious about competing, try to make the install as clean and 'safe' as possible, the judges take installation issues very seriously. Get lots of pics of the hidden stuff...

POR = point of reference. Quality, not quantity.

Yes, instal and build pics are ESSENTIAL in competition. Make all the hidden stuff as neat, if not neater than the stuff on show. Build quality can make or break an install. There are big points to be won or lost on hidden stuff.
