well if you think it's the oil, check the level and the quality toot sweet..... hope its not a minger that's had sawdust tipped in it!

if it's ok, then a little whine isnt too bad, particularly if you're revving high in 2nd and into 3rd... mine's made a little noise around 25-35 ever since i had it and i think it's just a "feature"

mind you if it comes and goes thats possibly trouble.
(the way you put it, as having come on after a bit of high speed, it might be best to make sure it actually has oil in)

Did you check the oil before you took it out? If not, check it now before you do anything else with it.. don't make the same mistake I did.

lol except the one i had before
(can't beleive i paid £120 for that sh*t)

...it emptied itself of about 2 pints of oil on the delivery journey as they packed it in a bloody cardboard crate without any padding and cracked the endplate. stinky 80w90 everywhere and an unusable box.

lesson for future: always collect in person if possible. gives you chance to inspect the goods before payment, too.

yikes, what is it with dry gearboxes turning up?
(ok, i know 2 in 2 weeks doesnt make a statistically significant pattern, but such things happen in 3s )

if you had to put 2 litres of oil in a 4-speed thats very bad because thats pretty much all they take. sounds like it was drained prior to pruchase like is said.

only when i was changing the oil out previously mate, dont freak :)

but, the 2 litres going into a 5 speed can't be all that good anyways, surely..!
