What's wrong with my air con?

Post by Redline »

Driving my GTi today I turned on the AC to Auto and Lo.

So I was kinda suprised when it started blowing out luke warm air. Also I noticed that it didn't feel like the compressor was "kicking-in" when switching it to Auto like it normally would.

Anybody any ideas on what it might be and/or how expensive it might be?

Kind of annoying as is like the first time I've driven it and used the AC since it was serviced by Lookers Teesside last week. Won't be going there to get sorted thats for sure.

Cheers

Check fuse, both engine bay and under dash.
Is it with climate control? try swith all the way to cool,. see if there

Yeah its climatronic.

Switched it all the way to the coolest setting, it's blowing nothing but warm air.

Is the cooling fan spins when you turn on the A/C in cool?

Might need regassing mate if you aren't getting cold air :?

VW are doing a deal at the moment for about £90 to re-gass and check all seals and give the system a general maintenance check.

i would hazard a guess its the compressor electromagentic clutch.

normally when an AC system runs out of gas its slowly noticed over a period of time- not an instantly noticable thing. Unless there is a big instant leak in the refrigerant system.

from what you have described where the "compressor doesnt kick in" it might be just that- either the compressor has gone (ouch- BIG money) or there is a possibility that the clutch it uses has gone (still expensive but not as bad)

Well all the fuses are fine, which I'm guessing means it's something bigger.

Getting it checked out this morning, so hopefully I'll know then.

Had it checked out this morning.

Cause of the problem being, a cable disconnected from the compressor. So my only explanation is that is was disconnected when it was in for it's service last week.
