Top Speed
nice one.
I havent long got my polo coupe S i used to have a MK 2 square back and i have to say im loving the coupe S. Although the same size engine it is alot faster that might have some thing to do with the K&N air fillter and the preformance exhuast but the top speed so far is around 115MPH at bout 6500rpm and im well impressed with it
sounds really nice and i love it
the best part is people look at it and think slow then they trie and race u and then they lose i love it lolol

too bad both the rozz and fuel prices have pretty much killed that
(i've spent the last 337-odd miles --- so far --- at 55 or less with the occasional half mile 60 or 65 spike for special reasons, trying to eke the most miles from one tank. It's looking bleak - all of 44mpg so far, and 144 miles to go. Rubbish. Then again it IS in the fatmobile... just... even recent memories of really punching it in that car, having it up to twice those speeds... 110, 115, and seeing it drop back to just above the ton up a hill and feeding it 4th to keep the power on.. that same trip will take about 30 to 40 minutes longer now

44mpg's pretty impressive. My GT's a bit of a mixed bag now its got a few mods on it. If Im careful its really good (got 48.7mpg last time I filled up when prices started coming down after the reecent events in america) But when Im less careful or do a lot of town driving it gets down to the low 30s.
Ah well, Its more economical than the derby.

Omi: if you were talking to me, i meant the Ashtray - it felt almost like i was sitting still (even at 110 and 4400 to 5500rpm). Only the rushing visuals and engine/wind noise stopped it being boring.
55 (all of 2200 silent revs) makes me want to build/program/install a simple autopilot system (cruise control, keep it between the white lines, simple ultrasound pinger on the front to keep distance from other vehicles/brake, sound an alarm after X miles so i can resume manual control to take it off the m'way) so i can catch up on my sleep, get the laptop out and work, etc. Only some VERY LOUD drum 'n' bass and thrash metal has kept me awake so far, and that's not too safe in itself as you tend to start funking out or play air guitar, weaving all over.
If you meant Maker, k4lps, kris and the other boys, i'd imagine it was screaming and shaking like Jeb Bush in a hurricane, going by the ghost-train ride that was the mk3 at the ton
great fun but makes you worry for the mechanicals!
Still, the wheels felt quite firmly on the ground even if the frame didnt like it. (mk2 aerodynamics might have a bit less ground force, though)
(44mpg is bloody terrible when you consider how i've been babying it - about as much as i did the polo when running in, except the revs have been lower and i've coasted it where possible - got a few places on work/college routes now where i can get upto a mile of unimpeded gravity acceleration. Plus most of the miles are now motorway ones, and even thrashing it all over previously, it hasnt been below 24mpg.. still its only a provisional figure til i have to fill up - basically going to run it til it coughs, stop, put a sip in and find the nearest fill station)

hehehe, very scary, but must have felt sooo much better with the 40mm drop, and 195/45/15's!!! hahaha, couldnt imagin it on 13's.....

if you beleive the figures in the manual, 90.1mph (145kmh) for a mk3 (1043 spi, 45hp), very slightly less (88mph?) for the mk2 (1043 carb, 45hp but reaches it at higher rpms, and less aerodynamic body), and about low nineties (about 93?) for the mk4 (999 mpi, 50hp, heavier car!).
but in real life it depends on how hard the wind's blowing, how long you've had your right foot desperately clamped to the carpet, what gradient you're on and how well you've been slipstreaming / how much you've got held up by idiots.
Don't bank on anything more than low 80s in everyday use, really
