How's your A/C coping with this hot weather?

How's your A/C coping with this hot weather?
OK I saw 38.5 degrees on the dash on the way home Wednesday night, the A/C Climatic was on 18c air speed on 3/4. This was keeping the car nice and cool but was not really cool enough for me.
I find I have to turn the temp dial all the way to the left (ie not regulated) to get ice cold air blowing out. But then my Wife complains, because it's too cold - no compromise then.
Anyone else find this?

My Climatic blows almost luke warm air rather than ice cold. I imagine it due to the engine size.
However, I still would have preferred a sunroof though, better than nothing I suppose
Oh, and I swear I can see the fuel needle going down whein its on, it must use fuel at least three times faster and thats when I'm taking it steady

Yeah, I find the polo doesn't seem to keep the air overly cool until you turn it right down. Possibly the throughput is too much for the compressor and it struggles to cool the air quick enough.
The climatronic in my Passat does a good job though, sitting on 20 every day, and doesn't seem to make too much of a difference on economy. Mind you, if I turn the temp down to 18, then the fan does seem to be blowing a lot harder for much longer.
20 is normally plenty comfortable for me anyway.

I saw 36°C in the car at the weekend
In this weather I keep the dial all the way round to the left and have the A/C on level 3 with recirculate on too. Can normally switch it down to 2 after 15 minutes or so. I tried setting the Climatic to 18/19° with the A/C on but it still didn't seem as cold as just setting it to 'cold' so don't bother now. I think Climatic will be more use in the winter.
Oh, and my mpg seems to drop by about 3mpg when using the air con.
Great thing about this weather is that the car (and wheels) seem to stay clean for AGES!

With Climatic (semi auto) it's the same deal as with Climate. You set the temp it maintains it. The only real difference are the dials vs digital readout really - this is the reason why the upgrade to climate is so cheap.
Like Leon says the bonus with semi climatic is that you can decide weather to use A/C or not.
This is why most people don't bother with the upgrade - there's no real benefit.

You can still adjust the Climatronic manually and decide whether ac is on or not surely??
You could in the Golf I had on loan.
My polo *may* be back soon. They are taking forever to complete the repairs. All it needed was a new bonnet!!
The poxy rental car I have has no aircon, just my luck! Plus it doesn't have ABS so it's lots of fun trying to stop quickly.

Yes, it is the same as any other normal climate system, my old man has a BMW X5 and that also has climate, that has the added advantage of a fume detection system, so if u come up behind a car that is pumping out lots of fumes it will switch to recalculate before u get any nasty smells.Petrified wrote:You can still adjust the Climatronic manually and decide whether ac is on or not surely??

Normal aircon is just on or off and then with the fan, but the semi auto is slightly more advanced as described above.
I have read a few ppl’s comments about when they engage reverse it switches to recalculate, is this a dealer activated option or can it be turned on by me when I get the car, or would it be worth my while buying a vag-com unit?

But is it worth an additional £300? I dunno. Certainly looks flashier in the dash mind!
