Polo Problem

Post by rew102 »

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with their engine cutting out. It usually happens when I have been drivng for a while but using quite a bit of battery power (either A/C or lights with my stereo on as well). The reves drop either when changing gear or when stopped to and the engine dies. I can re-start the engine first time but it will happen 6-7 times before stopping.

I have the 1.4 FSi SE and it has been to 2 different dealers and they can't find any problem registered by the computer and it doesn't happen when they take it for a test drive.

This has happened 5-6 times in the last few months and I'm getting concerned that its happening more frequently and it has just had its first service.

Has anyone experience anything similar or got any ideas what could be causing this. The garage said it could be not using high RON fule but it has been fine for 18 months and i have been getting my petrol from the same place.

Thanks in advance for you help

I've had a similar problem with my 1.4 FSI since I got it over a year and a half ago. It seems to start with the engine getting very "lumpy", then it gets worse and finally starts cutting out intermittently when idling. I'd previously taken it to my local dealer three times with this problem only for them to say that they'd cleaned the throttle body as it was dirty but could find no other problem -- this resolves the issue for a few months, and then it returns.

I found that once it was cutting out intermittently I could almost always get it to re-occur if I reved the engine to 5-6,000 RPM. Also, once it had cut out, I wasn't always able to restart it -- a number of times I had give it some throttle ASAP in order to keep it from going again.

I've just taken it to another dealer for it's first MOT and whilst it was in asked them to look in to the problem (I mentioned my normal dealer was unable to locate the problem). It doesn't seem as though they've cleaned the throttle body as it's still running a bit "lumpy", but they have apparently upgraded the ECU software, which they think could be the problem.

So far no problem, but I guess only time will tell.
