Could be a number of things... even if it needs a new clutch they are about £85 so dont worry about it. I test drove about 9-10 GTis before i bought mine and most of them had very heavy clutches. Think its off people reving really hard when pulling away or something...?
Its true that GTis tend to have heavy clutches but they aint supposed to. Go to your local garage and ask what they suggest. Depends what you mean by heavy also, what are you compairing it to?
IS THIS A GOOD DEAL
when i got my car last year i felt it was a bit heavy but didnt think anything of it as i thought the car was like that. my previous car to that was a 106 p reg so i didnt know how soft it should be.
When i did my service, vw said i had to have a new pedal box which was done for free.my clutch had gone as well but i did that somewhere else. It is so much softer now.
get yours checked out.

Oh rightpolosilver wrote:Not true. My clutch is very light...?Si_GTi wrote:Its naturally heavy, you get used to it the more you drive the car, but it would be worth double-checking that the pedal box recall work was carried out - pop into a local VW dealership and ask them to check the service history of your car and this will confirm whether or not the recall was done. Letters went out to all GTi owners at the time of recall but some will have inevitably been lost in the postal system/sent to a previous owners address (the latter if a sale was made at around the time of the recall).
Once you get used to it the clutch will become second nature, I don't really register the difference until I use a different car!

A new clutch is £85 ?????
what planet do you live on ? hahah can i visit? :-p
From VW they are £185 !! and they wanted £360 LABOUR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
like wtf?
one word. . . GAY !
Talking of which my clutch seems very crap these days seems to be slipping, or what feels like slippage (is that a word? hah). im praying to god its just my clutch cable making it feel like that, as ive had to keep WD40ing it to stop it squeaking, so annoying.
Also my gear selection is a bit crap these days too, does anyone know how easy it is to get the 'gearbox linkage alignment' done? ive read some ppl talking about it on here but not quite sure what it is !
Cal
As far as I know the dealerships use a template to realign the gear linkages (if they are out of alignment at all). I'm thinking about checking this out, as I'm getting some trouble with reverse occasionally where it kind of half engages ('stick doesn't go all the way in) and if I gently lift the clutch it complains like hell (graunches and grinds!) plus my gearchanges seem to feel a lot more notchy than when I had my new clucth cable fitted originally?CalvinGTI wrote:Also my gear selection is a bit crap these days too, does anyone know how easy it is to get the 'gearbox linkage alignment' done? ive read some ppl talking about it on here but not quite sure what it is !
