Could be a number of things... even if it needs a new clutch they are about £85 so dont worry about it. I test drove about 9-10 GTis before i bought mine and most of them had very heavy clutches. Think its off people reving really hard when pulling away or something...?
Its true that GTis tend to have heavy clutches but they aint supposed to. Go to your local garage and ask what they suggest. Depends what you mean by heavy also, what are you compairing it to?

when i got my car last year i felt it was a bit heavy but didnt think anything of it as i thought the car was like that. my previous car to that was a 106 p reg so i didnt know how soft it should be.
When i did my service, vw said i had to have a new pedal box which was done for free.my clutch had gone as well but i did that somewhere else. It is so much softer now.
get yours checked out.

Talking of which my clutch seems very crap these days seems to be slipping, or what feels like slippage (is that a word? hah). im praying to god its just my clutch cable making it feel like that, as ive had to keep WD40ing it to stop it squeaking, so annoying.
Also my gear selection is a bit crap these days too, does anyone know how easy it is to get the 'gearbox linkage alignment' done? ive read some ppl talking about it on here but not quite sure what it is !

As far as I know the dealerships use a template to realign the gear linkages (if they are out of alignment at all).
