Just picked up my MkVII

Post by nickp34 »

Its been a long wait (ordered in August), but my Polo finally arrived from the factory at the weekend and I picked it up from the dealer today.

Its my first VW and I must say I am impressed and really enjoyed driving it back.

Proper pictures to come. Will try and get some this weekend.

One thing though the brakes surprised me and they seemed to be not as good as my previous car (MK 4 Fiesta). I dont know if this is because they are new and need to bed in. Anyone else with a MKVII noticed this?

Nick.

Thanks.

It is a 1.4 SE with optional front fog lights and 16" Varano wheels.

Good looking car you've got there!!!

I've also found the brakes to be lacking slightly, but then again my last car had uprated brakes so could stop in no time at all

Very happy with it.

I have bought the double din to single din conversion kit from VAG parts so I plan to change the stereo or add a mp3 cd changer to the factory stereo. Not decided yet.

Externally maybe get a spolier fitted later on, but wont be any time soon.

Internally I am looking into chrome surrounds for the rev counter and speedo as fitted in the sport model. Hopefully they just clip on. Also the chrome handbrake and gearknob etc. Cubby hole mod.

Need to save up some money first though!

Nick.

I had a one of these new Polos with the 75hp 1.4 engine as a coutesy car when my Polo 9N 1.4 FSI was in for it's MOT a few weeks ago. I almost bricked as I was barrelling towards stationary traffic and pushing the brake pedal seemed to do nothing at all.

Now, whether this was just because it was quite new (think it had ~400 miles on the clock), or perhaps because it doesn't have discs all round, I don't know, but it certainly caught me out. With my current Polo there's a definite braking action right near the top of the pedal travel that gets progressively sharper as you sink it, but this new one felt like it was just dead travel until it was almost entirely to the deck!

I had a 1.2 55 reg one and it was awful. I too bricked it when applying the brakes!! im just to really sharp brakes (got front/rear disc's) on mine. Performance from the 1.2 55hp was awful (then i am used too all that diesel torque from my 1.4)

Didn't like it at all. Hope they give me a better one on the 16th Nov, Hopefully a 1.4.
