Lowering. For Comfort as well as Looks/Ride

Thought I'd put a post up about lowering, cause it's something I'm gonna do pretty soon. The 4x4 Look really p*****s me off.

Just about everyone says it's not worth putting -40mm springs on std dampers cause the rides c**p and you'll have to replace the dampers sooner rather than later. Also you pay for the job to be done twice.

So my question is : What's the best combined setup for -40/50mm that gives you a nice comfy ride for less than Â£300.

Is your car a 16v? Maybe 16v springs would be cheaper!

I had some Koni -40mm springs and adjustable dampers. cost me Â£250 and i couldn't recommend them more. for the price they offer and excellent ride and completely stop any scrubbing (also the hardness can be adjusted for track days and stuff).

The only other suspension i would have would be some coilovers (but you'll not get a set of these for under Â£300)

Koni sounds good Karl (could be a song title). Â£250, was that for new ones ? If so where do you get them from.

that was brand new, but not inc fitting. not sure how much fitting is cause i always get a 'special' rate from my local garage *cough*Â£50*cough*

Looks like Â£300-Â£350 is now the going rate for Koni shocks with various different sorts of springs.

How much difference do the springs make.

Which is more important ; damper or spring quality

In an ideal world would you fit Eibachs onto Koni dampers or should the two things be matched.

I have eibach on mine and can't fault them. I really wanted adjustable koni's but couldn't afford them so I bought some gmax dampers to replace my worn out standard ones.
The gmax aren't adjustable and are a little on the firm side but my car handles corners pretty well.
It's also lower than the stated 30mm.
