New engine for the polo maybee...

Post by polokris »

rite, i have been offered a nifty little 1.3 engine.... box, drive shafts, the lot basically.....

there is only ONE problem that mite stop me...

its a Golf Engine... MK2, 1.3 Carb,

Apart from the Engine mounts.... (which im sure can be swapped for polo ones) is there any thing else that i will need or stop me from puttin this baby in????

i know my 4-2-1 manifold is a 1.3 one, will that go on the block,

im thinkin the drive shafts mite be longer, and the gear linkage mite be different. but can they be changed to polo ones?!

sumone also told me that i will have to change the engine mounts to 1.3 ones.... but i was sure they were all the same 1.0 and the 1.3? this same guy told me to change the breaks too??? aint they the same as the 1.0 too???

ANY help of the above please!!

and im gonna do a few things to it too!! ;) if it fits!!

its the same engine as the 1.3 polo so its a straight swap. What reg golf is it from? Keep the polo driveshafts. Does it come with a gearbox as well? 5 speed?

1.3 polos have the same brakes as 1.05 polos. Its only the G40 models that have vented discs.

If it comes with a 5 speed gearbox and you car is a 4 speed, you'll need a nearside Polo 5 speed mount. The other two Polo mounts will fit without problems. You may need a 5 speed gearlinkage too, but it depends on what year your car is and if you can squeeze the extra adjustment from the existing 4 speed item.

The throttle linkage on the carb will be different as the Golf cable joins on the other side of the carb but fitting a Polo 1.3 part(just the linkage or a carb if easier) will sort this.

Brakes are the same on all mk.2 Polo's but I'd upgrade to G40/Golf GTi 239mm vented set up at least, if you intend to drive it like you stole it

Other than that, go for it. It's not a hard conversion at all :D

i am thinkin of upgrading the breaks, was goning to go for the GTI calipers, and after market discs and pads! ;)
and as for the drive it like i stole it...... naaa.... its a dub!!:P respect! ;)
altho it will be a nippy lil thing! :P

i have had a 5 speed in the car before, so i got a mount ready if it is a 5 speed, if not... im ready for it!

iv also had a 1.3 carb on the car, so i know that the throttle cable fits because if it is the same as the carb i got in my shed, it has 2 places that you can link the cable too! ;)

i also have 2 sets of driveshafts..... so looks like im on to a winner!!

will let u all know wen i get it!!

any more advice/suggestions.... PLEASE keep my informed!! thanx again for ur help u pair! :D

yer, tis a 1043cc HZ block i think! jus fancied the idea of a 1.3, and then put a cam on her, skim the head, and i got my 4-2-1 and full sys, and look for a weber carb, so should prove to be nippy??!

the 1.0 is nippy for me! i aint got bored of her in 2+ years! so id be happy with a 1.3 for a while! :D

little things please little minds as they say! :P

i already have a 1.3 Golf Rad (rad is bigger), 1.3 Fuel pump ( prob the same), and a 1.3 Alt (also prob the same as 1.0), the out side of the car is pretty much complete, taken 2 years, but now its time to get the engine in (which id be happy with for another 2 years! lol) , and sort out my Custom interior! ;)
