Camber

anyone know how do change the camber on a 16v? garage near me says he can't do it with lowered suspension and its just one of those things. can anyone shed any light on this? and possible tell me how to do it so i can pass the info on to him!

I believe the fronts have a little bit of adjustment, don't think the backs do?

it's not designed to be adjustable really, there are a couple of bolts on the front strut that allow for a bit of movement. not sure how to describe where they are!

i will need to get it adjusted as i'm hopiing to go down about -70mm

good stuff - i found the 16v wears less than the 8v does and copes with lowering better - my rears haven't worn unevenly at all and I've gone down 60mm. the fronts just needed tracking.

it's never going to be perfect, but it'll look good

yeah the back ones dont adjust but the front does as far as i am aware. i'm goin down on coilovers so i think it will knock it out quite alot and wear out the inner of the tyre.

Although i have a 8v, i would of thought the principles are similiar. The back camber is not adjustable at all. The front there are to bolts, i think the top on allows the wheel to be towed in and bottom is just a fixed point, or its the other way round.
I took my to a garage to do mine, very few have got the equipment. cost Â£44. Mines droped 60 and the camber is towed in on the max apparently. Once set up the handlerling(carnt spell) is amazing.
You can get a good idea by doing it yourself but, it does need to be perfect, otherwise the steering gets all f***ed up.

Actually it is - the front strut has two bolts to fix it to the hub one (Lower from memory) is a hole the other is actually a slot to facilitate camber adjustment

Anyway

- If your local garage won't adjust the camber - get em to do the tracking - this is crucial if you lower the car - camber isn't so critical and will be on the positive side anyway!!

Rubbish - find a better garage...........

If he says he hasn't got the settings for a lowereed polo - just tell him you want it done to std settings and lowering will not make any difference to the target parameters

thanks for the info bstardchild i'll pop in and see him tomorrow. couple of the mechanics that work there run lowered cars so i'll try and speak to one of them too! i'll defo have the alignment done and hopefully the camber now
