Electric Window Problem
Hi all
I have a Polo 1.4cl v reg, the passenger side electric window went last year but i can live with that, although every now and then it does spring into life for a few days. However the drivers side one is now acting up, it will go down ok but does not seem to have the power to go all the way back up, it will get half way then stop. I have to press he button in and push it up by hand the rest of the way.
When its closed if i open it just a little bit it will go back up when i press but as soon as i come down a little way more it wont go back up.
Anyone any ideas? and roughly the cost of getting it fixed?
Thanks all for your help

If not the motor then it could be the window lifter - a brand new driver's side lifter is sat on my bed at the moment in it's plastic wrapping ready to be fitted - I replaced the motor (most common and obvious source of window problems) and it did work for a bit (a day!) then started playing up again
Check the clips on the window regulator - they are made from plastic and often break
leaving only one side of the mirror on the regulator, making the motor struggle to lift the window, as its going at an angle, or give up all together (either burning out, dead motor or as a safety feature - motor cuts out as it thinks someone/something is stuck inbetween the window glass and car)
Do a search under my name and you will find my post about the problem with my window clips and how I fixed it

This is what happened to my passenger side window. Didn't go up again one day. Since we'd recently had a new door put on after a break-in, which was just replacing the metal, but keeping the original trim and, presumably, electrics, we had the garage who did the repair look at it. They did manually put the window back up but suggested the motor had gone. I don't really want to shell out for a motor + someone to install it, besides which I can still hear it trying to work (when I dare to try the window again).inder wrote:Check the clips on the window regulator - they are made from plastic and often breakleaving only one side of the mirror on the regulator, making the motor struggle to lift the window, as its going at an angle, or give up all together (either burning out, dead motor or as a safety feature - motor cuts out as it thinks someone/something is stuck inbetween the window glass and car)

So, I'm going to be brave and have a go at it myself. Will report back with pics (assuming I don't mess it up).
Hi pberry, I would almost bet that the clip shown is broken and the motor is fine - don't waste money on a new motor - a quick fix is like I have done, there is a thin gap that will allow a cable tie thru and around to secure the window and will still let it move up and down freely on the regulator.
since doing it ive had no problems whatsover. bascially don't slam your door with the window down far/fully down (often the case why the clip breaks) and as in your case, hope the worse does not happen (sorry to hear about that
)
the regulator could be replaced (~£70), i.e new clips and the whole mechanisim, minus the motro, but as a far as I know, the entire polo and lupo range still use plastic clips
there are metal clips out, but for the golf... but im tempted to buy the metal repair kit for the golf and see if they fit... could be too big though
if you need any help, let me know. search for my post, should be of assistance, do my fix and be happy again - diy fix for a less than a couple of quid
