seems the 4 and 5 speeds DO need different stuff after all

Right ... anyone got a 5 speed mount and lever-gate they don't need any more?

i've just found out the two are different and it's really going to hamper me geting the car back together any time soon

about to ring round as many local scrappys as i can, should be quite cheap bits i'm hoping....

the 4 speed has little thread-pegs sticking up on top (its a boy, lol), and the 5 has a place for through-bolts instead. horizontally. jeez.

plus i'm told that the cockpit end of the affair has the 5th gear position blanked off for a "smooth"er shift, so gotta find one of those parts as well (or borrow a power saw)

any other parts i need to be wary of and perhaps exchange? before it kaiboshes another weekend?

cheers.....

PS seems the old 4 speed is actually a 1.3 flavour, as i suspected all along (haynes says AKY is a 1.3, not 1.0 ... for once it's not wrong) ... played around with putting some marks on the input spline and driveshafts, and the relative rotations show that 1st-4th are identical on them... 14:1, 8:1, 5.1:1, 3.6:1 ... or in other words the correct numbers for a 1.3 4sp/8P (4.0625 x 3.454, 1.958, 1.250, 0.891). How strange.
(5th is 3.0:1, or 4.0625 x 0.740 ... the 8P numbers are intriguingly "regular")

just a warning to those thinking of doing a similar conversion, like.
(and a call for further ones if ive still missed something)
