Easiest way to get wires from door panel into the car?

Post by mmh »

Hi,

I'm trying to fit some alarm LED's next to the door pins like newercars have.

I'm having trouble finding a way to get the wires from next to the door pin into the area behing the driver's side fuse box to connect to the alarm.

I thought the pipe coming from the door to the car body was just a pipe with wires running through, but suprisingly it's terminated in a plug and socket configuration so I can't feed the wires through that way.

Anyone have any ideas???

Thanks, Mo :?:

you can. take the doorcard off. and inside the door by where the tube meets teh door there are 3 clips to undo pop those off the tube now comes out.

next up use a C spanner to remove it from the car. now it disassembles but i cant remember how leaving you with the plug part with some wire hainging out. now you can drill it out and fit your wires though that when you re assemble it.

i cba to go down to my car and take pics of it but thats the general gist of it.

trial and error mate.

I haven't got a c-spanner, just checked how much they cost...v.expensive £27 or more is there any other tool that will do the job?

Also is there enough space in the plug to be drilled carefully?

And how about in in the car body part (near the fuse box) there seems to be a huge purple connector with tons of wires coming from it...any ideas how to undo this??

Thanks, Mo

goto a cycle shop and buy a c spanner for undoing the lock rings, altho im not 100% sure they will sell C spanners now in bike shops and shimano have changed the lockring style but if you can find one in a cycle shop it will be a hell of a lot cheaper about £10. i got mine in a cycle tool set that was abotu £20 from halfords about 6 years ago. and i also got another 2 with my coilies.

the purple thing on the car side has holes already in it to thread the wires through unless your car is one of the high speck models you will have most of the holes filled. in the case of my car there was a rectangular hole that i fitted my central locking wires through. and on the bit you remove from teh car there was a corosponding rectangle of holes about 3mm in diamiter arranged in a rectangle so i took a 10 or 12mm drill bit to it and jobs a goodun.

as for a alternitave to a c spanner you could use a flat bladed screw driver very carfully to loosen it off then twist it off by hand. put the driver in one of teh slots and tap with the palm of your hand ( not reccomended but it will prolly work)

Cheers Guys,

I managed to take the door pipe off with a set of water pump pliers, only cost me a quid!

Cheers for the idea. I might put the flashing LED's next to my door pin instead of on the blank button.
