Finally got me a GTi

Post by vdubit »

Little brief introduction to say hello, posted a few times, but only to try sell my old car and by a polo.

So anyway I did. Have just bought an x reg black 3door gti. Its a little scruffy, but drives nice and was cheap. Cost me about £3700 (£300 and my arosa).

So far i've stuck some 16" deep dish rims I had on my convertible on it and thats it.

Probs that need sorting are a leaking driveshaft seal and a noisy clutch release bearing. For some reason it came with a non gti front spoiler and the rubbing strip on the bumper isn't colour coded, so i've ordered the splitter and will respray that and the strip at the weekend.

Currently on the look out for some coilovers, as with the 16's on it it sits stupidly high.

Have no pics at present, but if anyone wants to see the arosa or the convertible, check http://www.vdubit.co.uk and click projects or cars for sale (not updated it yet!)

Nice one fella!

The 16"s sound cool, wouldn't mind seeing some pictures when you get round to it :)

Willkommen zur GTI Verein!*

erm... blame Babelfish if I got that wrong...

Has it got the fogs? Sounds as though it may not be a GTi front bumper, may have had a slight bang on the front needing a new bumper?

Its got the fogs and the washers. The car has been smacked and repaired, it looks like the only thing they didnt sort out properly was the bumper, the rest of the repair is really good.

It just baffled me why they would cut the washer holes but not sort the other bits!

For some reason the drivers side door mouldings are sprayed textured ones, yet the passenger side (the side that was hit) has smooth ones. Bit of a mish mash this car I think!

And to p*ss me off even more, I just found out that 2 of the standard wheels aren't split rims, they look nearly identical but are one piece, and the offset is completly differant!

when i had an accident a few months ago, i had to have the front bumper replaced, and it wasnt until a few weeks ago when i removed the front washer jet covers i noticed the bodyshop had obviously cut the holes in the bumper for the jets, when i was near a vw dealer, i asked em if there was a specific gti bumper, they said no, and thus holes must have to be cut. is this right guys?

Car sounds like it has had much accident damage :?

nickpolo, they obviously don't know much, there IS a specific GTi Polo bumper! no way are you meant to cut your own jet holes out with a jigsaw or something lol

sprayed textured bump strips, means that they were black to begin with and have been coloured to match. normally colour coded arrive smooth and primed for painting

are you sure about the specific gti bumper? f**k, you think i should go back to them and complain? are there any other differences? it had put my mind at rest when i'd asked at vw, but i didnt think they might have got it wrong.

it was repaired through my insurers, at a decent enough bodyshop, just wonder if its worth doing anything about

Oops maybe I was a bit hasty, seems to be only a single bumper listed, the rest is just GTi trim

I guess its laser cut at the factory, but replacements have to have cuts made, which is silly in my opinion, but cost effective for VW I guess

Sorry hehe :) :D

So i've got my front spoiler and have fitted it, hopefully smoothing and spraying it (and the whole bumper) today. I'm tempted to do something a little different and stick the little front spoiler under the gti one, as it's a perfect fit...

...dunno yet though
