please help revive my paintwork

Post by nickpolo »

right, well i put a few posts before, i've a 51 plate red polo gti, and the owner before me didnt look after the bodywork very well, the suface is very scratched, when i say this i dont mean the red paint is scratched off, i just mean you notice lots and lots of swirls and scratches, like it has been polished with a gritty cloth... anyway, its daunting, i really really want to have a car with shiny sparkely bodywork, but dont know how to rectify this without causing more damage, or reducing the durablity and strength of the existing paint. i bought meguliars 3 step process and scratch x but am yet to try it, i havent access to a porter cable, so i dont know what to do,

i'm weary of taking it to a garage cause i'm weary of it being botched up - unless anyone can recommend someone in north london/ hertfordshire - whats would i need doing? and what sort of cost? or will i be able to sort it myself?

thanks for your help guys

Nick,

Use the 3 step system in this order DC1, ScracthX, DC2, DC3.

This should help a great deal....remember the key to a good finish is the prep. If the paint feels gritty and not smooth i'd use Meguiars Quik Clay.

Where about are you based btw?

Not that for from me as the crow flies, when the weather gets nicer you can come and use my porter cable if you want.

I dout you can rent them as you have to import them from the USA.

Swirl removal is possible by hand but is a right pain in the ass. a PC makes it so easy.
