Side exit Exhaust!

Post by Phil6N »

Im looking at doing a side exit exhaust. Just gota few quesations to ask.

The way im doing it is getting rid of the back box, attaching a small pipe to the mid box and bring it out just before the rear/left wheel.

Is that legal?I thought it would be as the mid box could count as the back box as they pretty much do the same thing!

Has any one else done this?Or got any pics of how they did it?
I couldnt find any previous threads, so soz if it has all been covered before.

Cheers,
Phil

I'm planning to do a similar arrangement on one of my other cars and I don't think there are any legal restrictions - as it's used primarily as a track day car I'm not to bothered about the noise but have put two mid boxes into the 3 inch bore stainless pipes

what you will find is that without the back box it will be quite load and you may attract unwanted attention form the boys in blue!

yeah, I had the back box rot through and disconnect from the rest of the system a while ago, and it sounded awful. I think you may need to add a bike silencer on there to help with the deadening, perhaps with a turned lip at the end to smooth off the sound a little.

Is the packaging ok, many things in the way, or will it be a tad low?!

from what i know the backbox is there to supress the exhaust note
so if your just adding a piece of pipe from centre-box to tailpipe im thinking its going to be loud, maybe even sound like its blowing

I used to have a metro that id rag around the farmland n stuff, the backbox fell off that and it was loud. A few weeks later the mid box fell off too - that gave me headaches!
