BIG BRAKES

Post by loopydoo2002 »

What is the best way to improve my brakes on my 1.4 16v, they just dont inspire confidence?

I have heard people talking about mk2 Golf G60 upgrade but i would like to hear from people who have upgraded from the standard set-up and the difference they noticed.

Thanks

you get a good benefit from flushing the brake fluid through with performance stuff, and fitting fast road pads.

the bite on mine is much better since I changed the discs and pads. have yet to do the fluid though.

It had about 3000miles ago new pads, new discs and new fluid from VW. They are ok but my mate has a saxo vtr with 306 GTI 6 front brake set-up and it makes your eyes pop out the sockets. I was wondering what the 16v can be upgraded to?

I thought about the rear disc conversion but surely that cant improve them that much considering most of the braking goes to the fronts! Also i cant be arsed doing it coz im at uni now and dont have anywhere to mess with my car its so annoying.

Do u know much about the G60 conversion?

What do u think of the Ibiza Cupra 1.8 20VT ?

I have done the g60 conversion on my GTi, and put it this way, when I first did them (not bedded in yet!) a mate was sat in the middle back seat texting when I slammed on the brakes and his phone flew out of his hands, hit the windscreen and broke! haha! They are fantastic! I’ve got the standard 280mm vw disks and fast road pads.

well im not sure what you need for the mk 4 but on the gti, because we already have the same calipers as the g60 all you need is new pads, 280mm disks and G60 caliper carriers.

I hope its that easy coz the standard ones are crap, what did it cost u for it all. Where did u get the caliper carriers from? The standard set-up on a gti polo is amazin anyway twice as good as a 16v.

Thanks for ur help

why don't you try something like tarox systems or something like that. I don't know the cost nor had the experience to try one of those things, but I bet that a 6 pot braking system will stop you quite quick. here is some info http://www.tarox.com/brakesys-6pot-info.htm or you can visit the site directly http://www.tarox.com. I bet that there are more companies out there which do performance braking systems
