g40 conversion

Post by Musicfreek2002 »

Took my car to a garage today and have just had a heart attack as they have sed that they think ive bent a valve and its gonna cost me a minimum of £400 and could cost as much as £900.

Jus wundring prices on a g40 conversion for my motor, im gonna get some coilys so i dont need to upgrade suspension.

So how much do you think for the g40 lump fitted and uprated brakes?

saying that though....if what a standard 16v is 100bhp...the only thing that makes the g40 quick is that its in a mk3 weighing what 200kg lighter...
as the standard g40 engine only pushes out 113bhp
i'd like to see what a 16v engine would be like in a mk3???

but to my point if you were to put a standard g40 engine in a mk4 shell it would'nt be all that quick....but the NOISE would make up...

any reason why it's more expensive? would a 16v be plug and play or would you need a 16v ecu with it? you wouldn't need an ecu with the G40 though. Is it just the extra cost of the G40 lump to start with?

youeh the 16v is more plug n play as 90% of the wireing is already there as it was made for the mk4 polo so vw use all the same mounting points and wireing jus add and remove different bits.

ah ok.

in terms of extra bits for the 16v - are many of the external ancilliaries different, or is it just the bits connected to the engine you need to take with it (forget the gearbox obviously!)?

just curious - I thought the 16v had a fair few bits different to the 8v
