Post by sparky »

the oil light on my my father in laws mk 4 polo flashes when the revs are up above idle,he's had it checked ny a vw specialist who have confirmed he still has oil pressure so they put on a new pressure switch but the light still comes on,he also done an oil and filter change just to be sure, does anyone know the grade of oil that should be used its a 99t 1.6 8v (engine code AEE) the garage now say its a wiring fault, but im not convinced because the engine does'nt sound right to me ,I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP ON THIS BEFORE IT BLOWS UP,THANKYOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR TIME,MARK

Hey man,

if you go to Halfords they have an interactive computer thing you can use to deterime what kind of oil you need.

The Haynes manual also lists the following as being suitable for the mk4 polo petrol engine:
"Multigrade engine oil, viscosity SAE 10W/40, 15W/40, 15W/50 or 20W/50, to VW spec 500"

I just did an oil and filter change and used 10W/40. Hope this helps
