Throttle Body Problem Erratic Revvs
Hi im sure loads of people have done this and like them i am very pissed off and wish that i would just be able to leave things alone.
I changed the air filter on my 1.4 16v today and decided to clean out the crap from the throttle body. Now its all shiny looking but when i started it up it revvs up and down constantly between 1600rpm and 2100rpm. Ive tried loads and nothing will make it settle. Please anyone who can tell me how to sort this help?
Sorry if the answer is already out there but ive searched for ages and am fed up looking so just need help now!!!

Disconnect the battery
Leave it for half and hour
Reconnect
Leave the throttle alone for a few mins - should be OK then
i had new TB fitted ages ago, anyway my battery run low and reset something recently, the revs were all over,i disscinnected the battery for 25min,re-connected it and took it for a ''spirited'' drive on the M62,the revs still were a bit iffy (didnt want to settle below 2k) but after a week it calmed itself down and runs sweet now, good luck .

Actually pal its not the same problem at all, mine was revving up and down not sitting high all the time. Ive sorted it now and funny enough it was just a coincidence that i cleaned the throttle body at the same time the vacume pipe on the servo decided to split. This messed up the engine by letting in air so ive changed it now £17.50.You didn't search that hard.....

I didnt know they were recalled!!! Strange, well if you remove your air box then you can see your servo in the top left corner near your brake fluid reservoir! There is a black plastic pipe that is connected to the servo and it goes down underneath the air box and fixes to the inlet manifold.
Its lucky that i noticed it because it was trashed, both ends had cracked and were only resting on. If i hit a bumpy road maybe i could have got into some trouble.

Hi, my 1.4 Polo is in the shop as I write with the same problem! They think the throttle body stepper motor has gone kaput but say they need to run a full diagnostic to confirm. I cleaned the throttle body myself before taking it in, which wasn't paticularly dirty and had the battery disconnected for about an hour and that had no effect at all. Personally I thought it might be the coolant temp sensor, the symptoms seem to suggest it...but I'll let you know what the verdict is tomorrow :-/
Just checked out throttle body prices at G&S and they're not cheap!
fingers crossed!!

I think my coolant temperature sensor is dead. The temp gauge on the dash hasn't moved in three days despite some harsh driving.
I'm going to follow the Haynes manual's method for testing whether the actual sensor is f****d or not but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if there was an easier fix than paying the Dealer £27 for a new sensor?
The engine seems to be fine despite the sensor not giving a reading but am I actually raping my engine by not fixing this until the weekend?

Got a different TB problem here.
I was getting the air box removed so I could put in new plugs and decided to open up the air box and check if the air filter was dusty. I noticed a lot of fluid (petrol it seems) above the throttle body on the air box. Is this a big problem or problem if any?
What is this symptons of and what do I do to fix this?
